Colossians 3:2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 2 Corinthians 4:18 … we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal. Luke 16:11 Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches? Things I Say to Myself (The Reward of Self-Indulgence) What we do with our money reveals the true state of our hearts For our hearts will always be where our riches are Whatever our interests and affections are set on Will determine where we invest our treasure If I am not investing in the cause of Christ I am wasting my passing opportunities and impoverishing myself in eternity The more I spend on myself, and the more stuff I accumulate in this life The less treasure I will have in heaven For the true riches are not down here but over there So I will not shirk my responsibility of being a faithful steward God does not reward those who fritter away His resources And spend money on unnecessary luxuries and creature comforts and status symbols To constantly spend money on trifles and cheap trinkets and sale items I do not need Is to rob myself of the true, eternal riches This is the reward of self-indulgence This is the eternal consequences of indulging my own desires, whims and passions So while I live and even after I die, and whether I have only a little or I have much I will be faithful in the use of the earthly wealth that I make in this world That is because I have set my mind on things above I have shifted my focus away from the things on the earth For the things that I see are only temporary and will come to an end eventually But the things that I do not see are eternal and will last forever Amen ©F.
