Mr Vegas' new album 'Soul Therapy' opens with the track titled, "I'm Delivered", a collaboration with Mr Vegas and Glacia Robinson. (Click to See Previous Post) Glacia takes us behind the scenes… We serve a God who hears and answers prayers. It might come as a surprise to many, but Mr. Vegas and I have maintained an authentic connection through the years. We have prayed together and shared much along the way. I have always known, and regularly reaffirmed him that God loves him. That God is interested in him. I also told him that he is a mighty man of God, that God’s hand is upon his life, that he is gifted artist, that God has a specific plan, purpose and calling for his life…and he has always concurred. The reality of Jesus and His amazing love for His children has always been at the center of our interactions and our communications. Consequently, there was never room for judgments, condemnation, or a holier-than-thou attitude towards him. Instead, there was always a mutual respect and a genuine camaraderie between us. But as it relates to Vegas and his musical genius overall, I have always had a sincere desire to see him enter into a covenant relationship with Jesus. Mr. Vegas is very influential and he’s a leader. He is also charismatic, naturally gifted, and passionate about music. I have always desired that he would surrender his life to Christ and serve God with his gifts and talents. I’ve prayed and asked God to change and use him mightily in the nations of the earth, for His glory! Many thoughts, prayers and encouragement have been expressed between us over the years. I am confident that I’m not the only person who has been praying for him. There are no words to describe the joy that it brings to my heart to see my prayer answered. His conversion stands as a personal testimony and encouragement to me, that we should pray without ceasing. Thank you father God. When I pray I can now say Lord Jesus, I thank you for saving Mr. Vegas. His name was not the only name of my prayer for salvation list but God is faithful and He hears and answers prayers. Before Mr. Vegas made the official announcement about his decision to change his life and follow Jesus, I remember, he reached out to me and told me the good news. He said, “I have taken my first step into the loving arms of Jesus Christ. My journey may be rough but with your prayers, I just know I’m going to make it. I was just playing your song on MV corner and the Lord said; it’s your time! I have to accept. I am tired of running. I am too battered, weak, and worn. Thank you for your prayers, thank you for your messages. This is it sis, I’m have taken my first step, I have surrendered my life completely to Jesus Christ!” Oh my goodness! Hearing those words was like music to my ears. I was so happy! I could not contain myself. Tears of joy gushed from my eyes and immediately fell to the floor; I knelt in the very same spot where I would usually cry out to God for his salvation. I got on my knees and started to thank the Lord. As the tears ran down my face, all I could say was…thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! Thank you Jesus! I’m still celebrating today! Still thanking the Lord for saving him! Thank you Jesus! Meeting of the Minds: The desire to collaborate goes as far back to the early years and launch of his secular career with the “Heads High” hit song. Since then, Vegas expressed the desire for us to work together, but it didn’t happen until now. I just kept praying for him. I’m so thankful that God made it possible now, for such a time as this. He makes all things beautiful in His time. Our collaborative efforts have produced a stunning album and we pray this will the first of many. Here’s How It All Came Together The production for “Soul Therapy” was in progress. In fact everything was coming together nicely when Mr. Vegas sent me a voice note with the melody that sounded like it could be used for a verse and the first line of a chorus. There was no official title for the piece as yet. He said, “This is just an idea if you like the concept, you can build on it. I will follow your lead on this one sis, you just do your thing." Even before I got a chance to listen to it, I told him that I would pray about the snippet that he sent, and see if the Lord would give me something to build on it. Either way, I told him it was going to be great! I just believed it would. When he sent the voice note to me, I was actually in the middle of doing something. So I agreed to listen to it at another time. However, not long afterwards, I found myself listening to it. I was just really curious to hear what he had sent to me. I started to listen to it and literally listened to it just once. Yes, once! To my surprise, by the time it got end of the file (which by the way was the first line of the chorus, “I’m delivered…” even without trying to write or compose anything, I started to hear the lyrics and melody for the next line, and the next line, and the next. Wow! I was very excited! So I quickly grabbed my guitar, my recording device and my songbook to write the lyrics and chord progression down. Within 10 minutes, the Lord gave me everything else - lyrics, melody and progression. Thank You Jesus! That’s the God that we serve. The Production Phase: Shortly after receiving this creative deposit in song, from the Lord, I was so excited, I could hardly wait to share it with Emerson Ally, my manager and producer. I shared it and asked him to collaborate by producing the song with me. He did not hesitate. He sensed the urgency in my voice and in a matter of days, the music was charted and recorded. He did an amazing job. I am so thankful for the way God helped us to skillfully produce this song. The Background Vocals: Before the song was fully developed, I reached out the maestro vocal arranger, vocalist, and producer, Courick Clarke in Jamaica. I shared a rough demo with him and asked if the song resonates with him. I asked him to see how he might vocally compliment the piece. He is great at what he does, easy to work with, and I trust the unparallel vocal arrangements he brings. He listened and dropped everything else that he was working on, and in a few hours, he arranged, sang and recorded all the background vocals for us. That was incredible. He did a wonderful job. The Mixing Process: I later incorporated the seasoned engineering skills of Mark Brown, another brilliant producer of mine. He was happy to collaborate with us, and did a magnificnet job editing and mixing. Needles to say, the entire song was complete in no time. Mr. Vegas and all of us were blown away by how beautifully the Lord orchestrated everything and caused it to all come together with so much ease. We all had fun working on this album. We all love it! I later introduced Mark Brown to Mr. Vegas and along with mixing “I’m Delivered”, he mixed a few more songs on the album… “Dash It Weh”, “You Are Welcome”, and “All That And More."
